What I'd Say To You If You Were Still Here

Dear Dad,

Where do I even begin?

The first thing I would do if I saw you again is give you the biggest hug! I would tell you how hard it has been without you and how desperately I needed you and still need you.

You were my compass. When I lost you, I lost my source of direction. I felt like someone dumped me in the middle of the desert with no map to find my way back.

The death of you changed the course of my life. I can't help but wonder how my life would have turned out if you were still here.

I'm sorry for being immature, selfish and a brat at times. I know I had a lot of growing up to do. I'm sorry it took your death for me to appreciate what I had lost. I hope you know just how much I love you.

There are so many milestones in my life that you will not be able to share with me.

I wish you got to see me graduate college. I wonder what words of wisdom you'd say at my wedding. I wonder what song we'd choose for the father and daughter dance.

But most importantly...

I want to thank you for being my father. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be the person I am today.

Thank you for being an extraordinary role model.

Thank you for building a strong foundation. It's what saved me. I was able to bounce back and learn resilience.

Although you are gone, the lessons and wisdom you taught me can never be taken away.

Although you are gone, I have the memories to help me carry on.

Although you are gone, what we shared together helps me as I take one step further each day.

Until we meet again!
